Problems in opening Norton Antivirus
Although the software is good, there
might be some errors that require troubleshooting now and then. Sometimes,
after downloading and installing the software, it fails to open. This could be
due to many reasons, like incompletely downloaded or incompletely installed
software, previously installed versions that are no yet completely removed, or
it could just be that it is taking a long time to load. Sometimes, if the
system is not re booted after installation of the software, it doesn’t open.
Symantec Corporation provides trouble shooting steps for all it’s possible
problems on it’s website which could be consulted if the following instructions
do not solve the problem.
Diagnosing the problem
The problem may be due to
an improper installation or corrupt file. One can perform a live update and see
if it works, since most problems are fixed in the latest versions of the software,
this may solve the issue. If the software is not running at all, a live update
can’t be performed. In that case, first verify that the
computer meets minimum operating system requirements, like RAM and processor
speed. Norton needs a minimum of Windows XP with service pack 2. You can also
try to uninstall all older versions of the software from the add/ remove programs from the control panel,
as these conflict with the program. If
that doesn’t work either, you will have to install a registry cleaner and run
it, and then install the Norton antivirus software again.

If the above instructions
don’t work, you have to make sure that the activation key you used was correct,
while installing the product. Go to the Settings
menu option on the Norton Control Panel and enter the key that you got on
purchase. Restart and run the program to see if it works. If this doesn’t work
either, open windows in safe mode by pressing F8 during system restart. Run the
program now and if it works, perform a complete system scan. This ensures that
no malware is deactivating the software. If everything else fails, you will
have to run the Norton Removal Tool (available for
download at Symantec website), which uninstalls all previous Norton software
and files. Make sure you have an installation CD to re install the Norton
Antivirus software. Reinstall and check to see if it works, it does in most
cases.
