Must Watch – Resident Evil: Retribution
How NOT to make a movie!!!
If there’s a movie you MUST watch to
learn how NOT to make a movie, Resident
Evil: Retribution would be a sure-shot contender. For the first
half-an-hour you’d be left wondering why and how you are taken from a full-on
fight sequence to a peaceful and cozy home and then back to the blaring fight
sequence.
The movie begins with Alice fighting aides of the Umbrella Corporation and then abruptly takes you to Alice’s (Milla Jovovich) home where she wakes up to find her husband and daughter. Her home is attacked by the T-virus infected ‘flesh eating Undead’. She and her husband are killed in the ensuing rampage. Soon after, she realizes she is in the Umbrella Corporation's underground facility where she meets Ada Wong, who is working with Albert Wesker. She then fights her way to the five-man rescue team sent to get her. She finally ends up meeting Wesker who gives her back her powers by injecting her with the T-virus (It is here that you wonder how she performed super-human feats throughout the movie without her powers!). The movie ends with a battered White House manned by the surviving humans and surrounded by scores of the T-virus infected Undead.
What this movie fails to give its audiences is a good plot and credible acting. The cinematography seems to be amateurish compared to the previous sequels of Resident Evil. The only motive behind making this movie appears to be that it is meant to set the stage for a more pumped up sequel. The plot is totally confusing. That explains why the movie secured a mere 5.2 rating (out of 10) by IMDb. Not so surprisingly though, it raked $42.3M on the US box office and $240 million worldwide, thanks to the popularity of its previous sequels.
